Where is the rice?

I am a rice eater. Oh, you too? I could eat two servings of rice and a small piece of “tuyo”. Gotcha! I know you can’t do it, only I. Well, it’s a bit of exaggeration but nonetheless it’s more true than false. Just yesterday we ordered Solo 1 at Kenny Rogers as lunch and I gathered 3 more extra rices (hehehe) from my gastronomically challenged officemates.
So what if I am a rice eater? What’s the relevance dude? Here it is dude? Rice is getting expensive dude.
Everyday, it’s the cup of tea of every news station in the country. It’s expensive because they say there’s shortage. I’m not really sure about that. Is it a “real” reality or “imagined” reality? Real is, I know that the rice I used to buy at 27 pesos is now 32 pesos a kilo. What the …?
Take this. Last night, the news said that the “pandesal” would be 3.50 pesos from 2 pesos. This means that wheat is also getting expensive. There goes another source of carbohydrate.
I have a very high metabolism. If I could not eat more carbohydrate to energize my activities, I would likely be a laptop dimmed, a potentially capable individual but slightly energized.
Since I could do nothing about making the prices go down or miraculously tear down the buildings and golf courses and return it to their once agricultural land, I am starting to improvise. The truth is I think I need to value other produce of our mother nature. There is camote, cassava and corn.
Boiled, grilled or baked, these are very good for weight watchers. Last night I saw a plastic of boiled camote brought by a gym mate. Corn is available everywhere. It is even a street food. However, I would not attempt to buy and cook cassava because I donot know how to prepare them. Don’t you know that it contains cyanogenic glucosides?
I am a rice eater. I am a carbo loader. In the absence of rice however, I am starting to become a camote eater, a cassava eater or a corn eater. Life isn’t that difficult. You just need to be imaginative.

i am actually thinking that the government is just making this propagandas to lessen the alarming problme of obesity in the country, me ofcourse included (i already gained almost 15 pounds for the last six months).
but in second thought, it get so furious everytime i hear pgma boasting around our economy over various media. when in reality nobody could actually feel it.
i tried eating corn before as an alternative for rice. but it didn't take me that long. probably because over the generations filipinos evolved with rice as one of oiur primary food. thus, it would be quite difficult for our body to adjust for such altrernative. but when worst comes to worst. i think that the country could well adapt into any changes.
pinoy tayo eh!
I wont get affected. For someone who eats 1 cup of rice a day. I'd survive. Lol
But if we're talking about corn. Patay na. I love corn lalo na pag buttered. Buti na lang haven't eaten one in a very long time.
Hello. This post is likeable, and your blog is very interesting, congratulations :-). I will add in my blogroll =). If possible gives a last there on my blog, it is about the Computador, I hope you enjoy. The address is http://computador-brasil.blogspot.com. A hug.
Sensationalism. Yan ang problema natin.
And yeah, agree ako kay wanderer. Ang kapal ni Gloria na magmalaki about our economy wala naman nakakaramdam kung hindi ung bulsa nila.
you so remind me of my friend. anlakas kumain! pero may kaibahan rin. kaw, carb loader. sya, anything! hahaha have a nice day!
@wanderingCommuter. lucky you. no matter how much i eat i could not get higher than 130lbs. as for the government, i guess our economy is greatly affected by the lingering global economic condition. let's just hope that we'll recover from this.
@mugen. indeed this could be a blessing in disguise for those on diet. :)
@tl. hahaha. napaka consistent mo talaga.
YEY!
I do not know if I am blind to the unpleasant truth about the rice supply problem being circulated around or if I am unaware of it.
I love rice and, just like you, I can eat rice without any viands to accompany it except Lee Kum Kee Soy Sauce mixed with Wesson Canola Oil, or without oil itself. It solves one’s hunger pangs.
I prefer the white or red upland-grown variety but since it is not available up north, I subsist on any long-grain variety as long as the grains rise well and turn out dry when cooked. All other lowland grown varieties, especially those which give out a soft consistency when boiled, turn me off.
The long-grain variety of white Thai rice I once used went perfectly well with the Caldereta a la Jane which I occasionally whip up.
And just like you, I can live without rice eating sweet potatoes, potatoes or Walter Wheat Bread as a rice substitute – and better alternative sources of carbo.
Is there really a rice supply crisis? High rice price issue is what’s bothering many folks.
